My thoughts: Frat Girl by Kiley Roache

*Lil spoiler alert

I started reading this book two months ago. I was reading and still currently reading Memoirs of Geisha but out of the blue I just picked up this book. I get a lot of feminism vibe a couple of pages through and the experiences of the main character of being treated unfairly as a woman even by her father. I think the father’s perspective is not really interpreted but I think he has his reasons? There is no in-depth approach but I think in the end, as a family he would just accept the fact that his daughter is fighting for her rights as a woman.

Chapter 38 have one of the best quotes about being a woman and I am just going to put it here for self-reminder “Don’t want to be left in the trailer while your husband works in the factory, Cass? So now you can find a man who’ll leave you in the penthouse while he clocks in on Wall Street. Congrats. A great improvement you’ve made.”

I am not going to spoil too much but it is a good read to understand a little about liberty in college hood especially in America. Obviously, I cannot put myself in the setting because we do not have fraternities or sororities systems in Malaysia. Even in college, I didn’t blend myself in any extracurricular activities unless if I am forced sometimes.

The key point of fighting equality between genders especially in college is an eye-opener. It might not be major but this is fiction so the exposure is in narrative form and the impact is not that much. Plus there is quite of romance spots here and there that are quite cheesy because I think college love is typical and yeah, it is typically made.

To me, I have expected the ending but it turns out other than what I expected which is much better!

I give this book : 4.4/5

Best quote: “There’s a difference between wanting something better and thinking you’re too good for the people who can’t have it”
