Summary:
It’s about two sister who ran away from their broken home to live with their crazy aunt in a mansion called La Baume. Sounds normal but it get sicker and creepier until you kinda lose it trying to understand what’s really happening to these two girls and why the heck they have a creepy aunt in the first place.
Highlights of this book:
Abusive Family
Creepy red mansion
Sisterhood
Love and Death
Purgatory ( you’ll see what I mean)
My thoughts:
The author’s creativity in trying to emerge the horror mood through old mansion with all the creaking and creepy sounds, creaking sounds and maggots works so well. She tried her best to bring the creep within you. I used within because I think everyone stored enough creepiness they got from horror movies. Through visualisation, it helps bring up our own imagination while reading more apparent. This is just my view on how you are able to intensify your reading based on your imaginations. There’s this one chapter about wasps and I just feel like throwing up reading it because I can imagine vividly how horrifying it could be.
At first, I feel agigated and I want the main character to wake up from this sickening nightmares.I am quite confused at how twirly this story can be. There’s too much of effort that makes this story quite exhausting to read when it can just be explained straight away. At the end,I didn’t expect the ending which is quite satisfying even though it takes time for my brain to be like “oohhhhh” that’s why. When it comes to flashbacks or going back and forth from an event to another event can be quite exhausting for me to follow but I was intrigued to know how this story ends.
I thought the romance that occurs in the book is unnecessary but it is actually one of the best highlight of this book. The interesting part are the 5-6 different fonts used in this book. It can be a bit confusing because the fonts represent stories from different characters and time and diaries entries. Just don’t put too much expectation when you are starting this book. It is not one of the best but it fits the role of a YA horror book.
Something to ponder on:
Self- blaming is a dangerous thing but no one can avoid it. There will come a space and time where it will occurred. Either it’s from your own act or others act that affected you. Some days we sink lower than we used to but there are also some days we fly like a freaking phoenix. The point is, it’s okay to blame ourselves but never grind on that until you lose your self-worth. It will pass.
