Summary
We followed the life of Dr, Scarpetta, a chief medical examiner who got twisted in this sickening hunt of a serial killer who killed women mercilessly. Not only she had to deal with the issue, we also get the insights of police drama and women empowerment in a man's world.
Lemme share some lines that impresses me with this main character.
"I can't help but think I'm an easy mark because I'm a woman."
"You're a woman in a man's world," Fortosis replied. You'll be considered an easy mark the ole boys discover you have teeth. and you do have teeth. he smiled. "make sure they know it"
This is a classic crime novel and I think it is one of the best crime novels I have read.
I haven't read crime/thriller book for months. It is a good starter that I picked this up to venture again in the world of crime novels. Usually, I would see true crime cases online and I forgot that if I want a little spark of fiction in crime, I can just try to read any crime novels that are available.
This one is special to me because I got it at a thrift bookstore a couple of months ago. I bought it because of the cover and I didn't expect that it is actually a good read.
I freaking love this book and the storyline. You can feel the 90s vibe a lot when they talked about the super old "command" structure of using computer back then with manuals! Plus the usage of yellow book too! It brings back some memories
Memento (something to ponder on)
One of the line in this book quote "The moon was a milk-glass globe through gaps in the trees as I drove through the quiet neighbourhood where I lived" When I look at the moon, I feel lonely or rather blue and engage in my emotions. You know what else I feel? Fear. Just like the book, you'll know that I am going to address the importance of being cautious all the time. No matter who you are, we will never know when we can be a potential target of some creepy, pervert people who either don't have any self control or plain mad.
Rating
5/5 love.
